Film producer; spearheading a revival in the British film industry. The son of news photographer Len Puttnam began working as a film producer in 1968 with films such as Melody (1971), That’ll be the Day (1973), Stardust (1974), Bugsy Malone (1976) and Midnight Express (1978). Puttnam’s successful films of the 70s were dwarfed by the blockbuster Chariots of Fire (1981) which won four Academy Awards including best picture and three BAFTAs.
