Prince Salim, later known by his imperial name Jahangir, (‘Conqueror of the World’), was the fourth Mughal Emperor who reigned for 22 years until his death in 1625. Born in Fatehpur Sikri to Emperor Akbar and Jodha Bai, he was named after Sheikh Salim Chisti, a holy man whose spiritual help was sought by Akbar to conceive a son after the death of his previous heirs in infancy.
